In Postfactum, Berlin-based multimedia artist Jinwei Zhang presents a series of new oil paintings that unfold as temporal illusions — portals, echoes, after-images. Dense with symbolic structure, Zhang’s canvases blur the line between the real and the speculative, weaving cosmic fragments, floating organisms, and spectral geometries into states of suspended transformation.

Zhang’s painterly practice — grounded in post-structuralism and informed by music, alchemy, and transhumanist thought — brings together luminous texture with abstracted figuration. Forms dissolve, reform, and multiply. Light appears as both a subject and an interruption. Visual rhythm and conceptual layering recall the artist’s work in animation and installation, but here are held in stillness — as if mid-breath, post-impact.

These works are not narratives. They are aftermaths. Postfactum is not about memory or imagination, but what follows: the quiet light after catastrophe, the data echo after perception, the bloom of meaning where structure once stood.
