Harmony of Contrasts: Vladimir Kordiukov and Elena Kopeikina, Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, Kirillov, Vologda Region, Russia
From 9 December 2022 to 21 January 2023, the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve in Kirillov presented Harmony of Contrasts, an exhibition bringing together the work of Vladimir Kordiukov and Elena Kopeikina. The exhibition opened in the exhibition space of the People’s House in Kirillov.
The two artists shared a connection with the Krasnoselsk Art and Industrial School, where they studied artistic metalwork. Both were born in the Kostroma region and later spent much of their lives in Vologda. Their work developed in different directions, while retaining a connection to the traditions of the Krasnoselsk school of jewellery and decorative art.
Kordiukov’s part of the exhibition presented his work across several forms, including painting, collage and sculpture. His artistic practice grew from his early training as a metalwork artist and later expanded into oil painting, graphics, collage and encaustic. His approach was marked by an interest in materials and a willingness to move between different techniques and forms.
Kopeikina was represented through her jewellery, reflecting her background in decorative and applied art. Her practice includes engraving, repoussé and Usolskaya enamel painting, techniques rooted in the Russian tradition of metalwork. She also applies these methods to the creation of icon frames.
